Last week I got an email from my Publisher, sending me the cover of my book and the final galley proof. It won't be long now! The cover is beautiful. I can't post it YET. So today, since it was like summer here in Greensboro and since I'm on spring break, I went for a walk at the Guilford Battleground Park, which is where chapter 1 of Keeping House is set.
I started my walk with a visit to the statue of Nathaneal Greene, Washington's strong general who led the American troops. Greensboro is named after him. You can read more about the Battleground park at the Guilford Battleground Park Website. This battle was a turning point in the war, and in my book, it is the beginning of a series of events that lands Madame President into the White House.
There is a paved road that forms a loop that you can walk, but today I walked the graveled walk through the trees. Along the way you see monuments and cannons, like this one.
Here you can see one of the wooded pathways. The trees are still asleep, just getting ready to wake up for spring!
In the park, you see the old fashioned wood-rail fences.
This walkway runs along Old Battleground Avenue at the entrance to the park. The museum is over on the right.
Later today I went on an trip to downtown Greensboro and found this fun shop called Marys. She has stuff from old homes torn down--doors, doorknobs, mantles. It was heaven. I found this statue in the front!
A green door in Mary's shop!
